About the Fellowship Program
The Center provides annual fellowships to faculty and graduate students for sustained research that sheds light on human-centered approaches to AI. In their year at the Center, each fellow pursues both their own research project and participates in the intellectual culture of the Center, assisting each other’s research, meeting with other fellows and the larger UW-Madison community, and ultimately collaborating on the publication and dissemination of the Center’s whitepaper. This whitepaper is the culmination of the fellows’ research and seeks to synthesize their disciplinary perspectives into a shared set of ideas about the relation between AI and the year’s theme.
Each calendar year, the Center selects 4 fellows from with UW-Madison’s faculty, and each academic year, the Center selects a UW-Madison graduate research assistant (RA) and an external faculty fellow.

Details on the 2027 application requirements will be posted early during the 2026-27 academic year.
